Summer Internship Programme
Surrey is home to over 1.1 million residents and is a county in which public confidence in the police is high and crime levels are relatively low. This is largely due to the effectiveness of Surrey Police and those who work for us. Indeed, any police force is only as good as its officers and staff.
Renowned as a modern, innovative and pioneering employer we are committed to bringing out the very best in our personnel. In the coming years we fully intend to enhance our hard-won reputation as one the UK's most forward-thinking forces. To help us achieve this aim we want to attract high calibre, enthusiastic and motivated people. We are looking for interns with strong interpersonal skills to enrich the force with business and leadership skills and who will contribute to delivering our strategy.
At Surrey Police, we have an intern programme for one simple reason: we thrive on fresh perspectives. With today’s demand for innovation we have implemented the Summer Internship Programme to respond to this challenge and to help maintain Surrey’s status as one of the country’s leading forces. This summer we have up to three placement opportunities which provide challenging business projects. Interns will work alongside full-time staff members to gain a real taste and understanding of the challenges facing modern policing.
Interns will work on assignments to support the key business priorities across the force. There are opportunities to expand networks, gain exposure to senior leaders and be a change agent, bringing new ideas into the organisation to drive the desired transformation initiatives.

How do I apply?
Our selection process is rigorous, thorough and designed to ensure that we get the best match for both Surrey Police and you. Due to the nature of the role, the type of data and information you will be handling, the following criteria will apply to all applications:
Vetting -All applicants are vetted for security reasons
Residency -To enable meaningful vetting, you must have been resident in the UK for the past three years
References -We will reference you via your last employer or current educational establishment
Official Secrets Act -You will be required to sign the Officials Secrets Act
Driving -You must hold a full current driving licence before applying. Currently disqualified drivers cannot be considered.
Financial Status -All applicants are subject to financial vetting. An adverse credit history may jeopardise your application, although this will depend on the circumstances involved.
Please note that applicants with criminal associations or convictions could become vulnerable to pressure to disclose information. Therefore, we are careful about recruiting people with cautions or convictions. You must declare any caution or conviction for any criminal offence, even if this was as a juvenile or is now considered 'spent' (under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 - Exemptions Order 1975). You must also declare any involvement with police, military or transport police investigations, even where the investigation did not lead to a prosecution.
Motoring convictions are considered with regard to the nature of the offence, the number of offences and how long ago they occurred. Applicants will be rejected if they have convictions for reckless or dangerous driving; or one offence of drink driving, drunk in charge or drugs driving within the last ten years. You must also declare other serious motoring convictions, such as driving without insurance or failing to stop after an accident or driving whilst disqualified.
The above is a guide only. If you have doubts about whether you qualify under this heading, please email internships@surrey.pnn.police.uk for clarification.
DUE TO AN OVERSUBSCRIBED PROGRAMME WE ARE NOW CLOSED FOR APPLICATIONS FOR 2012. INTERN OPPORTUNITIES WILL BE RE-OPENING IN OCTBER 2012 FOR POSITIONS STARTING JUNE 2013.
